Welcome
Rotary Club of St. John's East
WHO WE ARE
The Rotary Club of St. John's East was chartered on June 4, 1993 through sponsorship from the St. John's Rotary Club. Since that time our membership has more than doubled to between 60 and 70 members at any given time. As early risers, we meet 7:30 am every Friday morning in the Cabot Club which is located at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in downtown St. John's. Humour abounds within our membership and our meetings are widely viewed by visiting Rotarians and guests as being very upbeat and entertaining. St. John's East has a reputation as being a very forward looking club and one which makes a valuable contribution to improving the lives of those less fortunate at both the local and international level. In recognition of its efforts, during the 2006/07 Rotary year, St. John's East was recognized as the outstanding club in all of District 7820 which encompasses some 46 clubs throughout Atlantic Canada.
WHAT WE DO
Some of the key initiatives undertaken by our club include the Adopt-A-School program which allows our membership to become directly involved in enriching the lives of elementary students from inter city schools. Our Rotary-Read-Along program involves having Rotarians and others to visit schools throughout the region and read to the students. Besides providing the opportunity to meet the kids and promote literacy through this interactive approach, this program also contributes thousands of dollars in reading materials to enhance and upgrade library materials at each school visited. Our Christmas Hamper project is another one of our club's annual events which provides our members and their families with a hands on opportunity to help improve the quality of life for many needy families during the holiday season. Through our Club Foundation, the St. John's East Rotary Club donates approximately $100,000 annually to local charities.
Given the busy schedules of our members, our club has taken the position that we will hold one major fundraiser annually which provides the financial resources to help fund the many projects we undertake. Wheels and Deals is that annual event and, as of 2009, it is held on the Saturday nearest February 14 (Valentine's Day). This gala evening is viewed by many as the premiere fundraising event within the capital region and is the one project in which all club members are expected to participate. For more details, we would invite you to view the Wheels and Deals site.

Please take the time to view our site. We are sure you will find it to be very interesting and informative. If you find any errors or
notice anything on these pages that doesn't seem quite right, please contact our webmaster at gelane@gmail.com
On a final note, as a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community and international service needs our members are our most important asset. We would invite you to consider joining our club and help us to continue the good work that Rotary does.
